in my honest opinion, she’s cute and very talented no doubt, but somehow i get the feeling she’s not as innocent as she seems.
she’s got a big ego (hence her constant cam-whoring) and the annoying thing is she’s constantly playing up the “geek” thing as an appeal act. “oh i’m really not a babe oh i’m just a nerdy geek!” SHEESH gimme a break. Like quit acting already!

Michelle Phan is an incredibly unique person, one that you will meet maybe once in a lifetime, to be exact maybe once in 25 years. I thought I was well-rounded, but she is truly a genius. One such case of her genius is that she always manages to put what you are trying to mean and say with 10 lines into 1 line. They say, “Geniuses makes things simple, not complicated,� which is definitely true of Ms. Phan. This genius also makes her an exceptional teacher, and this further advances her uniqueness, especially with children. I have seen her teach, 21 month old Euro-Asians kids, to play piano and speak in complete sentences of baby talk. Often times, she will learn their language herself. Despite her youth, she really exemplifies this quote usually reserved for the most distinguished of tier 1 professors. “A teacher is knowledgeable; a good teacher is intelligent; a great teacher is patient; an exceptional teacher is a student (herself).� – Anonymous.
Such good quotes and praises, albeit good sounding, cannot truly begin to describe Ms Phan. After all, she is human, and she has made mistakes. The difference is that her mistakes seem to always speak truth and help others. I remember she once wrote on her myspace that she is, and I quote, “an inspiring artist.� This was her first line describing herself, by the way, and she has long since changed it. I don’t know how many before me have read her myspace, but I surely thought that she made a mistake in word usage, and that she meant “aspiring.� No artist in their right minds would call themselves an “inspiring� artist, which is very boastful. Perhaps only the most distinguished artist, whom are usually dead, could make such a claim.
BUT little did I know that she is a genius. Since meeting her on March 2, 2006, she has been nothing short of an inspiring artist to me and others around her. What I once told her to change should probably be changed back and underlined. She has helped me continue my steps toward my dreams with much more fervor than ever before. I was once LOST you see, and dreams were the only thing I could hold onto and be myself, and she has made it seemingly possible to let go of my dreams and be here in reality. You see, dreams should never be held onto, but dreams should be free, and pursued. With her by my side, I understand what it takes to make that journey of pursuit.
Hans Selye, MD once said, “To make a great dream come true, the first requirement is a great capacity to dream; the second is persistence- a faith in the dream.� Great minds think alike, and she has helped me realized this quote. I realized there is no faith in the dream if I held onto it so tightly. All of those who care about Ms. Phan and have read this far, please dare to dream the big dream, and never succumb to the status quo of who you are supposed to be and how you are supposed to do things, unless that is truly who you are and what you believe. I just realized and added that last portion today; I realized it from a passionate discussion with Ms. Phan herself. I hope you all get to see her the way I see her and know her the way I know her. Likewise, I hope she knows you all as well as she knows me.

She doesn’t have a big ego, in fact if you actually READ her blog, she writes interesting topics than just photos of herself. She seems really down to earth. She isn’t acting like a “geek”, she IS a geek because she would rather play video games at home than clubbing. I know this because I live in Tampa and she is well known for being a big time tomboy/nerd than a attention clubbing whore, but you have to admit, she is a babe and she makes “nerdom” fashionable. I think it’s very inspirational and I’m rooting for her. Nerds all the way for this win.

I think she’s pretty and seems nice. The artwork is pretty phenomenol.
…But the excessive camwhoring is indicative of either a pride issue or a masked insecurity issue. Cam whoring and narcissism are never good and certainly indicate serious underlying issues.

i really dont understand what’s wrong with the cam whoring thing, and what’s the problem with taking picture of herself ? beautiful things are meant to be capture, and seriously, i really dont feel that she takes so much photos like other camera whore bloggers… tho i do agree she’s more a artist than a designer, coz all her works are paintings, that explains the plain layout of her site.

I use Photoshop 7.0 and Painter IX. If you want to get into digital painting, invest in a good wacom tablet. Good luck and happy drawing! =)
